Getting Your Foot in the Door

If you are looking to get a job in the games field, or just looking to polish the presentation of your portfolio, this is the lecture for you. Bob Cooksey, a 10 year videogame veteran and Communications major from SUNY Brockport, will be going over everything from portfolio presentation to networking in his presentation on how to get your foot in the door in the videogame field. If you have questions about where to look for a job, how best to present your work, and how to avoid the pitfalls of applying for work, this speech is for you.

Bob Cooksey is a games industry veteran of nearly ten years. His work has appeared in such diverse titles as EA’s “Return of the King,” Acclaim’s “Turok” and “Vexx,” Majesco’s “Bloodrayne 2” and “Jack Nichlaus 5 Golf.” Currently, Cooksey is Lead Environment Artist on Clive Barker’s “Demonik,” a Next Gen title featuring original concept work by Danny Beck and Marvel Comics’ David Finch. Some of Cooksey’s most notable environmental work includes The Road to Isengard level and the Crack of Doom in EA’s Lord of the Rings/ Return of the King videogame, and the Shroud Tower cityscape in “Bloodrayne 2.” In the late 90’s, Bob was the main content developer for Eclipse Entertainment’s Genesis engine.

Before entering the videogame field in 1996, Cooksey worked as a freelance illustrator, doing original t-shirt and print illustrations for the NFL, MLB, University of Texas , performers Duran Duran, Patti Labelle, Talking Heads, the Police and many others. From 1993 until 1996, Cooksey was employed as a main illustrator for the Austin American Statesman’s XL Magazine. His popular weekly cartoon strip, Queeny, appeared in the Statesman for over three years.
